We have an opportunity to make COBRA creditable coverage for Medicare.

Why does that matter? Well, for seniors who retire and decide to continue on COBRA instead of buying Medicare immediately, there is a rude surprise in the form of a permanent penalty that increases the cost of their Medicare for the rest of their life.

We should make COBRA creditable coverage so that seniors aren’t penalized for delaying entry into Medicare. That’s good policy. It’s good for the senior, and it’s good for taxpayers.
