KFF 2024: family coverage now costs as much as an economy car

Today’s dystopian healthcare headline: “Employers are shelling out the equivalent of buying an economy car for every worker every year to pay for family coverage,” KFF President and CEO Drew Altman.

KFF released their Employer Health Survey yesterday, finding that average family premiums nationally for employer-sponsored insurance topped $25,000 last year.

KFF also showed how premiums have grown faster than inflation and essentially captured wage growth over the same time. Put another way, workers aren’t really getting raises because the raises are eaten up by higher healthcare costs.
