NABIP's first model legislation: the Lower Rx Cost working group

We did a thing!

In August of 2023, Greg Stancil, as Chair of NABIP's Lower Rx Cost Working Group, charged us with a first for NABIP: Drafting Model Legislation that would help with the problem of runaway drug costs in America.

I was on that working group, along with a number of great folks who are invested in not just their own profession, but the availability of quality, accessible care for all Americans.

We drafted a bill that year - an accomplishment in itself for our committee.

Because I can't keep my mouth shut, Greg asked me to chair the group for the 2024-2025 term. Jennifer Spiegel Berman, the Legislative Council Chair asked what my goal was for the committee. I said the goal was to get it introduced somewhere, anywhere. That would be a big deal for NABIP.

Devon Travis, REBC and Max Karlin took the baton and sprinted through the finish line, getting a portion of our language introduced in Virginia, unanimously passed by both chambers, and signed by the governor.

We wrote a law!
